Key Responsibilities

  • Review and analyze inpatient medical records to identify appropriate diagnostic and procedural codes in compliance with official coding guidelines and payer requirements.

  • Assign accurate ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS codes to ensure maximum reimbursement and minimal claim denials.

  • Verify that coded data supports the medical necessity of billed procedures.

  • Work collaboratively with physicians, billers, and auditors to clarify documentation and resolve coding discrepancies.

  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations, CMS guidelines, and all federal and state laws governing medical billing and coding.

  • Audit records to identify trends, errors, or documentation gaps and provide constructive feedback to the clinical team.

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of payer policies, coding updates, and healthcare compliance standards.

  • Submit accurate and timely coded claims to support efficient revenue cycle management.


Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Active Certified Professional Coder (CPC) credential from AAPC or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) credential from AHIMA.

  • Proficiency in ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems.

  • Strong understanding of inpatient coding, billing rules, and DRG assignment.

  • Experience using Electronic Health Records (EHR) and medical billing software.

  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and time-management skills.

  • High attention to detail and accuracy in code assignment.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Experience

  • Minimum 2–5 years of professional experience in inpatient hospital coding.

  • Proven track record of maintaining high coding accuracy and compliance standards.


Working Hours

  • Remote Position: Flexible working hours based on project timelines.

  • Core collaboration hours: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM (CST), Monday to Friday.

  • Occasional overtime or weekend work may be required during peak billing cycles.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong command of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and pharmacology.
