Job Summary

Houston Skilled Consultancy is seeking a highly analytical and results-driven Cloud Cost Optimization Analyst – FinOps Specialist to join our dynamic team. This role focuses on enhancing the financial performance of cloud infrastructure by applying FinOps practices, monitoring usage, and identifying cost-saving opportunities across cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud. The ideal candidate will bridge the gap between Finance and DevOps teams to drive smarter cloud spending and improved financial accountability.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate with engineering, product, and finance teams to implement and improve cloud cost visibility, allocation, and forecasting.

• Analyze cloud spend patterns and provide actionable insights to reduce unnecessary expenses.

• Design and develop cost dashboards, detailed reports, and alerts using tools such as CloudHealth, Cloudability, or custom BI solutions.

• Continuously optimize resource usage, including rightsizing, reserved instance planning, and workload scheduling.

• Promote FinOps best practices and governance across cloud teams.

• Provide monthly and quarterly cost reports with variance explanations to executive stakeholders.

• Track and report KPIs related to cloud spend and efficiency.

• Identify opportunities to improve automation in monitoring and cost management.

• Act as the subject matter expert for cloud billing and usage optimization.

Required Skills and Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in Finance, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

• Deep understanding of cloud computing services (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS) across AWS, Azure, or GCP.

• Solid experience with FinOps principles, cloud cost optimization, and financial modeling.

• Proficiency in cost management tools (e.g., CloudHealth, CloudCheckr, Apptio Cloudability).

• Advanced Excel/Google Sheets skills and familiarity with SQL or Python for data analysis.

• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.

Experience

• Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in cloud cost management, financial operations (FinOps), or cloud infrastructure.

• Proven track record of delivering measurable cost savings in a cloud environment.

• Experience working in cross-functional teams, especially between IT/Engineering and Finance.

Working Hours

• Monday to Friday: Flexible schedule (Core hours 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM CST)

• Fully remote with optional office visits if located near our Houston headquarters.

• Occasional meetings with global teams may require flexibility for time zones.
