Job Summary:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly skilled Inpatient Facility Medical Coder (IP DRG Coding Specialist) to join the team at Progressive Technology. As an essential member of the coding department, you will be responsible for accurately assigning ICD-10-CM/PCS codes to inpatient records in accordance with regulatory requirements, payer guidelines, and organizational policies. This role plays a crucial part in ensuring proper reimbursement for healthcare services and maintaining the highest standards of coding accuracy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review and analyze inpatient medical records to determine the appropriate ICD-10-CM/PCS codes for diagnoses, procedures, and treatments.

  • Assign DRG codes for inpatient admissions and ensure compliance with coding standards and guidelines.

  • Validate that all coding assignments comply with both internal policies and external regulatory standards, including Medicare, Medicaid, and other third-party payer requirements.

  • Collaborate with healthcare providers, including physicians and clinical staff, to clarify diagnoses or treatment details as necessary.

  • Assist with audits and quality assurance checks to ensure coding accuracy and reduce the risk of claim denials.

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of coding changes, updates to healthcare regulations, and payer requirements.

  • Participate in continuous education and training to enhance coding skills and ensure compliance with industry standards.

  • Track coding productivity and maintain detailed documentation of all coding activities.

  • Ensure timely submission of coded claims and billing information to ensure reimbursement is received promptly.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Proficient in ICD-10-CM/PCS coding, including DRG coding and knowledge of inpatient coding guidelines.

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work with complex medical terminology and clinical documentation.

  • Excellent knowledge of healthcare reimbursement and payer policies.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to liaise with healthcare professionals.

  • Proficient with coding software and electronic health record (EHR) systems.

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in inpatient coding, specifically with DRG coding.

  • Certification in ICD-10-CM/PCS coding from a recognized body (e.g., AHIMA or AAPC) is highly preferred.

  • Previous experience in a hospital or inpatient facility setting is highly desirable.

  • Experience working with coding audits and resolving coding discrepancies.

Working Hours:

  • Full-time, Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM (remote options available)

  • Occasional overtime may be required to meet deadlines and support urgent projects.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of ICD-10-CM/PCS coding, DRG coding methodologies, and the principles of medical billing and coding.

  • Skills: Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret clinical documentation and assign accurate codes. Proficiency in EHR systems and coding software.
