Job Summary

Progressive Technology is seeking a talented and creative Freelance Digital Childrens Illustrator to bring whimsical and captivating illustrations to life for childrens books, apps, learning platforms, and branded content. This role is ideal for illustrators with a deep passion for storytelling through visual art, especially for young audiences. You will collaborate remotely with writers, editors, and project managers to produce engaging illustrations that inspire, educate, and entertain children.

Key Responsibilities

• Create original digital illustrations for childrens content including storybooks, educational materials, and digital platforms.

• Translate written briefs or manuscripts into compelling and age-appropriate visual storytelling.

• Develop character designs, scenes, and backgrounds in a consistent style aligned with the brands tone.

• Deliver clean, polished, and high-resolution artwork within deadlines.

• Incorporate feedback from editors and creative directors effectively and efficiently.

• Ensure illustrations meet technical specifications for both digital and print formats.

• Maintain communication with the creative team throughout each projects lifecycle.

Required Skills and Qualifications

• Proven portfolio showcasing experience in childrens illustration, preferably digital.

• Strong proficiency in digital illustration tools such as Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Procreate, or similar.

• Ability to create age-appropriate, engaging, and imaginative characters and scenes.

• Excellent understanding of color theory, composition, and visual storytelling.

• Solid grasp of diversity and inclusivity in character representation.

• Ability to manage multiple projects with varying deadlines

• Good communication skills and attention to detail.

• A playful, creative, and child-friendly artistic sensibility.

Experience

• Minimum 1–3 years of experience in digital illustration, preferably in childrens publishing or media.

• Freelancers with prior experience in childrens book illustration, educational material design, or animation storyboarding will have an advantage.

Working Hours

• Flexible working schedule — ideal for freelancers managing multiple clients or projects.

• Must be available for occasional virtual meetings or feedback sessions during standard business hours.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Deep understanding of childrens developmental stages and how they relate to visual storytelling.

• Familiarity with storytelling structure and pacing in childrens books or media.

• Ability to adapt illustration styles based on project requirements.
